It’s that time again! Let’s examine three more paranormal photos and play another round of Fact or Fake!
The Hessdalen Lights

This infamous light phenomenon has been vexing the Norwegian valley of Hessdalen since at least the 1930s, when the first reports emerged.
They appear at night and by day and can hang around from seconds to hours. Most commonly they are white, but yellow and red lights have also been spotted and are said to move at varying speeds.
But what are they? Some believe the answer is out of this world – aliens. Could the strange movement be signals we have yet to understand? Well, probably not.
Could it be ghosts? Maybe, but the lights are likely terrestrial in nature. Misidentification of the Northern Lights can be ruled out – reports only date back to the 1930s, and the Northern Lights have been around a whole lot longer than that.
The leading theory is that mining in the area is causing the release of various elements which are then being ignited in a way that’s not completely understood. The high levels of scandium in the area may be part of the reason the lights are limited to Hessdalen.
Creep Factor: 💀- Nature is cool, but not that creepy
Believability: 💀💀💀💀💀- There’s definitely something happening in Hassdalen that’s been captured on film.
The Ghost of Murphy’s Hole

When Kim Davison took this photo in 2014, no one expected for it to capture a ghost. Alas, the sunny day swimming in Murphy’s Hole, Queensland, Australia was marred by the addition of a sixth person – pointed out above – between the two sunglass wearing adults. There were only five people in the water that day.
The photo was posted on Facebook and picked up steam in international media and soon rumours began to identify the over-exposed figure as the ghost of a 13 year old girl, named Doreen O’Sullivan, who drowned in Murphy’s Hole.
Taken with a phone camera, we can rule out the possibility of an issue with the film. We can’t rule out a case of pareidolia. The exposure of the photo makes it difficult to make out the edges of the figure, particularly with the arm on the swimming boy in the way, but the reflections of the water behind does make it seem as though something is both above the water, behind the boys arm.
Does that mean it could be a ghost? Maybe yes, maybe no.
The creepy thing? According to this article, a 13 year old Doreen O’Sullivan did indeed drown in Murphy’s Hole in 1915.
Creep Factor: 💀💀💀💀💀 – What’s creepier than a child ghost on an otherwise sunny day?
Believability: 💀💀💀 – I don’t think it’s fake, but I do think it could be something disguised by the over-exposure.
The Worstead Church Ghost

In 1975, Diane and Peter Berthelot visited Worstead Church Norfolk, UK. Diane, who was supposedly suffering a mild infection and taking a course of antibiotics at the time, took a seat and made a quick prayer as her husband snapped the above photo.
Upon review, they found a mysterious lady in white, sitting one the pew behind Diane, although they were alone when the photo was taken. When they returned to the church the next year, they showed the photo to the vicar, who confirmed the local legend of the church’s White Lady – who supposedly appears when someone is in need of healing.
As for the image itself, they ghostly woman seems to be dressed in white, complete with a white bonnet – probably not the most fashionable look in 1975.
The part of the image I find most interesting is the reflection on the church pew, to the ‘ghost’s’ back. She seems to be giving off her own source of light which not only illuminates her own bench, but diffuses the edge of her shoulder and back. Of course, this could be from the sunlit window and the exposure of the film camera.
There’s always the possibility that the Berthelot’s were mistaken and there was another person in the building with them, but I’d like to think the legendary White Lady paid a little visit to a poorly Diane Berthelot.
Creep Factor: 💀💀- Comforting rather than creepy.
Believability: 💀 💀 💀 – An extra skull for the legend.
