Three Celebrity Ghosts

If we are to believe in ghosts, it’s only natural to believe in the existence of celebrity ghosts, that is, ghosts of former celebrities, not ghosts who have become famous in the afterlife. Let’s discuss three of the most famous celebrities who’s ghosts are said to visit our mortal plain.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe lead an extraordinary life, and although she’s remembered as among the first sex symbols, she is the embodiment of a true American rags-to-riches story.

Unfortunately, her life in the limelight was prematurely eclipsed on August 4th 1962 at the tender aged of 36, when she passed away from a barbiturate overdose. In fact, the death of Marilyn Monroe is mysterious enough of a topic in itself, but that is an article for another day.

Since her death, Marilyn’s ghost has been said to have been seen all over America, including the site of her burial in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery, the Pier in Santa Monica and at the Roosevelt Hotel, where her spirit has reportedly been seen in a full length mirror that once stood in her the suite she lived in for two years during the early days if her career. This mirror now supposedly sits in the manager’s office, but the ghost is said to wander the halls along with Montgomery Clift and Errol Flynn.

Marilyn Monroe’s ghost was also said to have made her presence known during the filming of her recent biopic, Blonde. According to lead actress, Ana De Armas, the spirit, would hurl things around the room if she didn’t like the way her story was being told. Aside from this, the actress felt Marilyn’s ghost was more or less happy with what was going on.

It’s no wonder her spirit is known as “the hardest working ghost in LA.”

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson’s career yo-yoed spectacularly over the course of his life, from stratospheric stardom to criminal trials that still polarise people today.

Just like Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson’s psychology is fascinating, albeit terribly sad. However, since his death 2009 from an accidental prescription drug overdose, Michael’s spirit is said to roam the Beverly Hills mansion where he died. According to this Daily Star article, neighbours have seen his ghost wandering the house, and even claim to have heard music and singing emanating from the supposedly empty house.

This isn’t the only place Michael Jackson’s Ghost has been seen. In this now infamous CNN video, during a tour of the famous Neverland Ranch, the camera pans down the hall, only to capture a shadowy figure walking from left to right.

Many report seeing this live, but here’s a playback for the rest of us:

What do you think? Could this be a trick of the light? The shadow of the camera crew? You be the judge.

This isn’t the strangest part of Michael Jackson’s story – or even the story of his alleged spirit. In fact, according to the New York Post, a woman named Kathleen says she’s married to Michael Jackson’s ghost. She also claims that she’s the reincarnation of Marilyn Monroe and that Martin Luther King Jr. officiated the phantom wedding.

Elvis Presley

Another household name who died too young, Elvis’s spirit is said to have remained in his Graceland estate – and why wouldn’t he? He lived, died and was buried there. Just like Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch, it’s reasonable to suggest a ghost would be seen at the place the person felt most at peace.

Although conspiracy theories abound regarding wether or not Elvis died at all, some of those sensible enough to believe he died at the tender age of 42, believe that he roams Graceland.

According to claims, Presley’s family members have felt his presence, heard his voice and felt his touch while spending time in his former home.

As is the way with famous ghosts, Elvis doesn’t reside in just one place. His ghost has also been seen in Las Vegas venues, including The International Hotel, where he’s said to have given his old friend, Engelbert Humperdinck, a fright.

So what do you believe? Do you think these celebrity spirits go on to haunt the living, or are stories like this just an expression of these people’s cultural impact? Maybe society isn’t ready to let go of its greatest and most tragic stars? Or maybe these ghost stories are just rumours made up to increase footfall in certain clubs and hotels. Whatever the case, death has only cemented the legacy of these spirits.
